Ohio drivers lost a Supreme Court appeal Monday that asked whether police roadblocks to check for unlicensed drivers violated the Constitution's guarantee against unreasonable searches or stops. The court, without comment, declined to hear the case of two Dayton men cited for driving without licenses in 1998. PA - Two new Bills, if passed will allow red light monitoring cameras; SB 704 & SB 1010. Generally these Senate Bills describes photo enforcement as a solution to motorists that pass steady red lights. NY - Will install addition red light monitoring cameras. NJ - May ban any type of dialing telephone numbers on a cell phone, while operating a motor vehicle. NY / NJ - Enforcing speed limits through E-Z Pass toll plaza. Violations range from warnings, suspension (pass) and fines. NY - Any material including clear plastic covering the license plate (not the frame) will result in a traffic violation. Arkansas - Postpones plan to install red light monitoring cameras, due to challenges. Tennessee - Senates voted 19-14 to put a sliding scale on car tags next year with the amount based upon the age of the vehicle; 1% on the vehicle's value beginning Jan. 01, 2003. Connecticut - The state police and the police dept. of nine towns join forces with federal and CT. authorities to form the first regional traffic unit in the Hartford area. The teams will set-up checkpoints for DWI, seat belt laws, speeding and other violations. Colorado - DMV will be upgrading their current camera equipment for imagine mapping. Basically, this method maps the face into small puzzles, and reassembles it. This will be used to prevent ID fraud and other crimes.
